Karimoku is one of Japan's leading wood processors and has stood for the highest precision and sustainable handling of solid wood for decades. Yuma Kano, in turn, is known for his "ForestBank" project, where he transforms wood scraps, bark, branches, and sawdust – materials that would otherwise end up as waste – into completely new, unique surfaces. This very philosophy is reflected in this Bearbrick.

The character is made entirely from genuine solid wood and impresses with its natural material aesthetics. The head and ears show a warm, clearly grained wooden surface, while the legs are kept in a darker walnut brown. The heart, however, is the torso: irregularly distributed wood fragments, branch slices, and pieces of bark are embedded on a matte, rich green with fine speckles, appearing like an abstract mosaic from nature. Each of these embedded elements tells its own story and transforms the ForestBank material into a vibrant, almost picturesque surface. No two pieces are alike.

This model is exclusively offered in the 400% format, reaching an imposing height of approximately 28 cm. Unlike lacquered or printed Bearbricks, this is a real wooden object where the individual grain and the natural arrangement of the material fragments make each piece unique. For collectors who value material quality, sustainability, and artistic depth, this Bearbrick is an exceptional highlight within the entire Karimoku series.

Are you looking for a collector's item that clearly stands out from glossy vinyl figures? The BE@RBRICK Karimoku ASLOPE 60° (400%) is the result of a long-standing collaboration between Medicom Toy and the traditional Japanese furniture manufacturer Karimoku, known for its outstanding woodworking since 1940. While most Bearbricks are made of plastic, this edition stands out with genuine, hand-processed solid wood – a testament to slow craftsmanship in a fast-paced collector's world. The name ASLOPE 60° directly refers to the distinctive design feature: diagonal stripes running across the entire body at an angle of 60°.

Visually, this Bearbrick captivates with a fascinating interplay of different woods, joined together in fine, diagonally running stripes. Warm brown tones, deep mahogany red, light cream beige, and dark, almost chocolatey nuances alternate in precise diagonals, harmoniously extending over the head, ears, torso, arms, and legs. Each individual wood segment reveals its natural grain, so no two pieces are exactly alike. The oiled, smoothly sanded surface emphasizes the warmth of the material and practically invites you to pick up the object. The result is a Bearbrick that is less a toy and more a sculpture.

This edition comes in the imposing 400% format, reaching a height of around 28 cm – the ideal size to fully showcase the intricate wood inlay work. This handcrafted wooden Bearbrick embodies the symbiosis of tradition, innovation, and understatement.

The centerpiece of this model is the artfully crafted Longitudinal Chess pattern: strips of light and dark real wood run lengthwise across the entire body, creating a calm, elegant checkerboard motif in a vertical orientation. As a product for the MEDICOM TOY EXHIBITION '19, it joins the Polygon line of wooden Karimoku editions and completely reinterprets the familiar bear silhouette – as a sculptural collector's piece that is as much an art object as a toy icon.

The body is made entirely of wood and worked in a faceted polygon look that gives the usually soft curves angular, crystalline surfaces. The Chess motif is made up of a chequerboard pattern of contrasting wood tones: light, warm golden segments alternate with dark, walnut-brown squares and extend across the head, ears, belly, arms and legs. Each square shows the natural grain of the wood, so no two bears are alike. The matt finish emphasises the tactile, handcrafted feel and brings the texture of the material to the fore.

The set comes as a single in the large 400% format, standing around 28 cm tall – an imposing presence that shows off the polygonal design and the contrast of the wood tones particularly well.
