bearbrick-jean-michel-basquiat-14th-version-100-400
BE@RBRICK Jean-Michel Basquiat 14th Version (100%+400%)

Jean-Michel Basquiat is one of the most influential voices in 20th-century art. In the late 1970s he began writing cryptic graffiti slogans under the tag SAMO on the streets of New York, and shortly afterwards became a celebrated star of Neo-Expressionism. His paintings combine fragments of words, symbols, comic aesthetics and anatomical studies into a raw, multi-layered visual language. Medicom Toy dedicates a long-running Bearbrick series to the artist's work, with each edition transferring a distinct part of his output onto the iconic bear form.

In this edition, a dense collage of Basquiat motifs covers the entire figure. On the front, a black figure with raised arms stands against a pale, densely written background, topped by the famous three-pointed crown in yellow on a bright red field. On the back, a torso with exposed organs unfolds. The motif recalls Basquiat's lifelong fascination with anatomy. Above it, the lettering „JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT“ appears together with the crown emblem. Areas of bottle green, ochre and mustard yellow, handwritten notes and rows of numbers run across the arms and legs. The glossy finish makes the colours glow richly and emphasises the painterly depth of the original.

The set combines two sizes: the 400% Bearbrick stands around 28 cm tall and offers enough surface for the details of the collage to come into their own. The 100% Bearbrick, at about 7 cm tall, picks up the same motif in compact form, with the image sections shifting noticeably due to the different scale. As part of the ongoing Basquiat series, the duo fits neatly into an existing collection.

For art lovers, street art fans and Bearbrick collectors, this set is a way to bring a piece of art history into your home as a sculpture. On a sideboard, bookshelf or desk it draws attention, and it also makes a special gift for people with an eye for art and design.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0843/3133/1850/files/bearbrick-jean-michel-basquiat-14th-version-100-400-herstellerbild-1.webp?v=1792910436
