Information about the authenticity of Bearbricks

In the fascinating world of Bearbricks, authenticity is crucial. Unfortunately, inferior copies are increasingly appearing, often offered on specialized websites at seemingly low prices. These counterfeits may seem tempting at first glance, but they offer neither the quality nor the long-term value of a genuine Bearbrick. The authenticity hologram

One of the most reliable features to ensure the authenticity of a Bearbrick is the authenticity hologram found on the packaging of many models. This hologram has been used by the manufacturer MEDICOM TOY since 2010 and serves as a seal of approval for the figure's authenticity. It's not just a visual detail, but a crucial protection mechanism against counterfeiting, as it is manufactured using complex technologies that are difficult to imitate.

The hologram displays different effects depending on the viewing angle, including the vibrant colors and unmistakable logo of the Bearbrick brand and manufacturer MEDICOM TOY, as well as the signature spider monkey (@) and the outline of a bear's head. In the center of the hologram is a sequential number (e.g., A21110517), which indicates the production period and allows for a rough chronology for each model. This detail makes the hologram an even more reliable indicator of a Bearbrick's authenticity.

However, there are exceptions: Some models, especially from special series like the Happy Kuji lotteries or promotional series with a size below 100%, do not have such a hologram. These figures were deliberately distributed by MEDICOM TOY through partner companies without a hologram and are nevertheless authentic. Especially with such models, it is all the more important to check other features such as the workmanship, packaging, and retailer to ensure authenticity.

Hidden Tags

Another important feature for authenticating modern Bearbricks is the so-called Hidden Tags. This technology, introduced by MEDICOM TOY in early 2022, offers an innovative way to quickly and easily verify a figure's authenticity. Despite their name, Hidden Tags are not invisible, but are clearly visible on the Bearbrick's right foot sole and on the packaging.

The hidden tags contain coded information that can be read using the specially developed "Hidden Tag" app on your smartphone. Simply photographing the tag establishes a connection to the MEDICOM TOY database, which provides you with electronic proof of authenticity. This verification confirms that your Bearbrick is an official and original product.

It's important to note, however, that this technology is only used on larger figures from 400% size and up, and on some 200% models. Smaller figures, such as the popular 100% Bearbricks or even smaller models, do not have hidden tags. For these figures, it remains crucial to pay attention to other authenticity features such as the authenticity hologram, packaging, or workmanship.

DU-AL.IO

In addition to Hidden Tags, MEDICOM TOY offers a modern way to verify and manage the authenticity of your Bearbricks with the DU-AL.IO platform. This technology was developed specifically for Bearbricks with NFC chips and complements the security concept with a user-friendly, digital solution.

Since mid-2022, selected Bearbricks have been equipped with this technology. The relevant models feature an NFC chip built into the sole of the figure's right foot. To use DU-AL.IO, you must first register on the official website https://medicomtoy.app.du-al.io/ . After registering, you can manage and authenticate your Bearbricks in your personal account.

It's incredibly easy to use: Hold your smartphone, which can read NFC chips, close to the Bearbrick's right foot. The NFC chip is automatically recognized and scanned. You can then add the Bearbrick to your DU-AL.IO account. After registration, you'll see a digital warranty card confirming the figure's authenticity. This card also contains important information such as the serial number, production details, and any other relevant data about the model.

DU-AL.IO is more than just an authentication tool. It allows you to create a digital archive of your collection, maintain overview, and facilitate resale. Potential buyers can access the digital warranty card through the platform and verify the authenticity of your Bearbricks. After resale, the warranty card can be transferred to the new owner.
