Released in 1954, the original film is far more than a monster movie—it's a powerful metaphor for the atomic devastation Japan had experienced less than a decade earlier with Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Godzilla became a symbol of a nation's nuclear anxieties while simultaneously evolving into the most influential monster icon in film history. With over 30 sequels and worldwide recognition from the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest-running film franchise in history, Godzilla embodies pure pop culture power.
This limited-edition set reinterprets the ShodaiGoji – the very first Godzilla design from the 1954 film – with exceptional attention to detail. The gray tones with white accents perfectly recreate the original monochrome aesthetic of the black-and-white film. Every surface texture tells the story of the groundbreaking suitmation process, in which Haruo Nakajima had to perform under extreme conditions in the 100-kilogram costume made of latex, bamboo, and cotton. The signature jagged back plates, the bulky physique with short arms, the clearly visible teeth and ears, and the clawed feet reproduce the original design vision with impressive precision.
Godzilla's terrifying presence is particularly striking thanks to the distinctive face with its white eyes and gaping maw – a design deliberately chosen for its horror-inspired aesthetic to visualize the existential threat. The textured surfaces simulate the organic feel of the original creature, while the three-dimensional design of the back plates perfectly captures the iconic silhouette. The set includes both sizes – 400% (28 cm) as the dominant display figure and 100% (7 cm) as a compact complement. For kaiju enthusiasts and film historians alike, this Bearbrick is a tribute to the work that forever changed the genre.
