This Bearbrick embodies the distinctive design philosophy of mintdesigns, one of the most innovative Japanese fashion labels of the last two decades. Founded in 2001 by Central Saint Martins graduates Hokuto Katsui and Nao Yagi, mintdesigns defines fashion as product design with the aim of "enriching the lives of people aged 3 to 100." The brand won the Moët & Chandon New Designers Award in 2005 and the prestigious 28th Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix in 2010 – one of the highest accolades in the Japanese fashion industry.
The signature zigzag pattern on this Bearbrick is a hallmark of mintdesigns and represents their expertise in graphic textile design. The label is known for defining fashion through its own unique fabrics – from prints and jacquards to lace, all created in collaboration with leading Japanese manufacturers. Each season, Katsui and Yagi personally visit the factories to fine-tune color combinations and pattern arrangements. These textile designs are by no means limited to clothing, but can also be found in interior design, tableware, furniture, and even Japanese sweets.
The design features a dynamic black and white zigzag pattern that wraps around the entire Bearbrick. The sharp-edged triangles form horizontal bands that extend over the head, torso, arms, and legs, creating a rhythmic, almost hypnotic pattern through their geometric precision. The back is emblazoned with the mintdesigns logo in its signature typography – featuring the distinctive small circle that replaces the "i" in "designs." This graphic reduction perfectly reflects the design philosophy: not following trends, but showcasing timeless possibilities of fashion.
