Product description

A masterpiece of Japanese art history becomes a coveted Bearbrick collection: Ogata Korin's famous "Writing Box with Eight Bridges" from the 18th century shines in the classic 100% and 400% combination. This extraordinary set is based on the Tokyo National Museum's national treasure, considered one of the most precious examples of Maki-e lacquer art. The magnificent Suzuribako depicts the legendary eight bridges from the "Ise Monogatari," one of the most important collections of classical Japanese poetry.

Ogata Korin, the eponymous master of the Rinpa school, created a work of art of timeless elegance with this writing box. The characteristic composition features stylized iris blossoms made of shimmering mother-of-pearl on a deep black lacquer ground, interspersed with geometric wooden bridges made of corroded lead and silver. These Bearbricks masterfully reproduce Korin's innovative technique of "rusu moyō"—the motif of absence—in which the actual protagonists of the story are absent, and the viewer himself becomes part of the poetic narrative.

The warm gold tones and pink mother-of-pearl accents on the dark background reflect Korin's revolutionary aesthetic, which combined literary motifs with decorative brilliance. A collaboration between the venerable Tokyo National Museum and Medicom Toy, these sculptures are not just collectible figures, but also cultural ambassadors of Japanese artistic tradition. The 400% version, measuring an impressive 28 cm in height, is a monumental homage to the Rinpa movement, which, with its "Yamato-e" renaissance, continues to shape Japanese artistic understanding to this day.
