Product description

Robe Japonica is a Japanese fashion label known for its distinctive Japonisme style: opulent patterns, surprising combinations of motifs and a skilful blend of classical ornamentation and modern graphics. For this 2022 collaboration with Medicom Toy, the label transfers its signature textile design onto the iconic bear silhouette, turning it into a collector's piece that works as much as an art object as a fashion statement.

The design extends across the entire body as a continuous all-over pattern. On a deep blue background, oval decorative frames line up side by side, resembling antique medallions or mirrors and capturing animal portraits within – from watchful cats to serious bear faces. In between, delicate blossoms, filigree ornaments and applied dragonflies and butterflies in dark violet-blue intertwine. The matte finish gives the surface an elegant, textile-like feel, while the dense, symmetrical arrangement of the frames is reminiscent of precious kimono fabric. The pattern is applied using elaborate water transfer printing, so every detail runs precisely even over the curves of the head, ears and limbs.

The set comes in the popular mixed-size format and combines two sizes: the handy 100% figure at around 7 cm tall and the impressive 400% figure at around 28 cm tall. Both carry the same design, which reveals its full depth of detail in the large format and impresses as a compact counterpart in the small format.
