This Bearbrick features the Bulgarian tricolor – three horizontal stripes of white, green, and red that have represented the southeastern European country since 1879. The story behind this flag is closely linked to the European struggle for freedom in the 19th century: After the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, Bulgaria finally achieved its long-awaited independence from the Ottoman Empire. The choice of colors was a conscious tribute to its Russian allies – the classic white-blue-red tricolor was adapted, with the blue replaced by green to emphasize its own national identity.
