Als Medicom Toy im Juli 2021 die heiß erwartete Series 42 ins Rampenlicht hob, begleitete eine streng limitierte Geschenk-Kampagne den Launch: Wer in einem der fünf hauseigenen Medicom-Stores für mindestens 5.000 Yen einkaufte und dabei eine Series 42-Blindbox erwarb, durfte sich über einen storeexklusiven Promotion-Bearbrick freuen. Diese Variante stammt aus dem MEDICOM TOY PLUS in Omotesando Hills, dem Concept Store, der 2016 zum 20-jährigen Markenjubiläum eröffnet wurde und seitdem als Adresse für luxuriöse Limited Editions und „Nur-hier-erhältlich"-Stücke gilt.

Der Bearbrick zelebriert seinen Herkunftsort mit einer unverwechselbaren Gestaltung: Ein perlweißes Iridescent-Finish überzieht den gesamten Körper und bricht das Licht in zarte Regenbogenreflexe, sodass die Oberfläche je nach Blickwinkel zwischen Opalweiß, sanftem Rosé und kühlem Türkis changiert. Auf der Brust prangt der goldene Schriftzug „MEDICOM TOY PLUS" samt charakteristischem Pluszeichen-Logo – ein dezenter, aber unverwechselbarer Hinweis auf die Provenienz dieses Stücks.

Hinter dem Design steht kein Geringerer als Hajime Sorayama, der japanische Ausnahmekünstler, dessen Copyright die Promotion-Edition trägt. Sorayama, 1947 in Imabari geboren, gilt als Pionier der Sci-Fi-Erotika und hat mit seinen hyperrealistisch-glänzenden Sexy-Robot-Bildwelten die Bearbrick-Szene nachhaltig geprägt. Die schimmernde Pearl-Oberfläche dieses 100%-Modells übersetzt seine futuristisch-metallische Bildsprache in dezent-aristokratischer Form und schlägt zugleich die Brücke zu seinen Secret-Figuren der regulären Series 42.

Für Sammler ist dieses 7 cm große Stück ein doppelter Glücksgriff: Es verbindet die Aura eines Sorayama-Werks mit dem Status eines Store-Exklusivs, das nie regulär verkauft, sondern nur als Belohnung an die Kundschaft eines einzigen Tokioter Stores ausgegeben wurde. Wer es ergattert, sichert sich ein leise leuchtendes Fragment japanischer Designer-Toy-Geschichte – und schließt eine Lücke, die in jeder ernstzunehmenden Sorayama-Sammlung schmerzhaft auffallen würde.
