When Parisian avant-garde meets Breton craftsmanship: EgonLab brings a centuries-old French embroidery tradition into the present of designer toy culture with this patterned bearbrick. Founded in 2019 by Florentin Glémarec and Kévin Nompeix, the label, known for monochromatic rebellion and deconstructed tailoring, takes a radical turn here – making the Bigodenne embroidery from Pont-l'Abbé the centerpiece of its Spring/Summer 2026 collection.
Bigodenne embroidery originates from the Pays Bigouden region in Brittany, where, since the 19th century, embroiderers of exceptional skill have adorned the legendary traditional costumes. Pont-l'Abbé, the region's capital, remains the center of this "broderie blanche"—the white embroidery art that brings bonnets, vests, and costumes to life with floral patterns in vibrant colors. Since 1954, the city has celebrated the "Fête des Brodeuses" every July, one of France's oldest cultural festivals, honoring this textile tradition.
This 7 cm tall Bearbrick embodies the DNA of this craftsmanship: hand-painted embroidered ornaments in rich blue, vibrant red, and fresh green—those characteristic colors that adorned Breton folk costumes as far back as the 19th century—shine against a white background. The floral patterns follow the traditional aesthetic: imaginative blossoms, intertwined tendrils, and ornamental compositions, such as those historically embroidered on the tall Bigouden headdresses. The chest features a magnificent central flower with pink and red petals, surrounded by blue accents and green leaf tendrils. More floral elements wind their way up the arms, while the legs are decorated with symmetrical embroidery.
The deep blue ears, nose, hands, and feet create a powerful contrast to the light base, making the vibrant colors of the embroidery shine even more intensely. As a pattern from Series 51, this Bearbrick combines EgonLab's contemporary vision with the cultural heritage of Brittany – a statement that innovation and tradition need not be opposites. The brand once again demonstrates its ability to navigate between radical modernity and a respectful appreciation of French craftsmanship.
