Product description

This extraordinary Bearbrick set transforms one of the most iconic artist toys into a three-dimensional homage to Jean-Michel Basquiat—the revolutionary Neo-Expressionist who was the first African-American artist to conquer the elitist, white art world. The third edition of this legendary collaboration between Medicom Toy and the Basquiat Estate celebrates his unique visual language with a black-and-white composition featuring his signature writing, symbols, and poetic text fragments.

Jean-Michel Basquiat was no ordinary artist, but a cultural phenomenon. Born in Brooklyn in 1960 to Haitian-Puerto Rican parents, he didn't consider himself a graffiti artist, but rather a writer of lists, blackboards, and vocabulary notebooks. His works are not mere images, but complex texts full of codes, words, letters, numbers, and diagrams that address themes such as racism, classism, colonialism, and power structures. From a homeless street artist under the pseudonym SAMO in the late 1970s to a celebrated star of the Downtown scene alongside Andy Warhol, his meteoric career lasted only a decade, ending tragically in 1988 at the age of just 27.

This Bearbrick interpretation perfectly captures Basquiat's raw, unfiltered aesthetic. The entire surface of both figures is covered with his signature lettering and symbols: the English word "PLUTO" appears repeatedly, "CAST IRON" and "AUTOMOBILE" mingle with cryptic characters, letters like "X," and sequences of numbers. His name, "JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT," is emblazoned across the chest as a powerful statement. This black-and-white reduction emphasizes the graphic, almost symbolic nature of his art and recalls his roots as a street artist. The organic distribution of elements across the head, torso, arms, and legs creates a composition that reveals new details with each viewing.

The set consists of two sizes: the 400% version, approximately 28 centimeters tall, and the compact 100% version, about 7 centimeters tall. Both are fully articulated and made of high-quality plastic. For art lovers and collectors, this set is far more than a designer toy—it's a piece of art history that celebrates Basquiat's legacy as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. His famous quote sums it up perfectly: "Believe it or not, I can actually draw."

Is this Bearbrick already pre-assembled?

Yes, all Bearbricks available at MyBearBrick.de are delivered fully assembled by the manufacturer Medicom Toy and are ready to display. So there's no risk of damaging the model.

What packaging does this Bearbrick come in?

This Bearbrick comes in the official original Medicom Toy packaging (see specifications). This is often a collector's item in its own right and important for preserving the model's value. We take care to ensure secure packaging for shipping to prevent damage during transport.

What material is this Bearbrick made of and how do I best care for it?

Most Bearbricks are made of high-quality plastic (ABS plastic), unless otherwise stated in the specifications. For maintenance, we recommend gently dusting the figure regularly with a soft, dry cloth. On chrome versions, fingerprints should be avoided; cloth gloves may be helpful here. Direct sunlight and high humidity should be avoided to protect the colors and material over time and ensure long-term value retention.

How quickly will my order be shipped and how long will delivery take?

Orders received by 2:00 PM on weekdays (11:00 AM on Saturdays) will be shipped the same day via DHL. Delivery within Germany typically takes 1 to 2 business days. Deliveries to other EU countries or Switzerland typically take 2 to 4 business days. You will always receive a tracking number so you can check the status of your delivery at any time.

How much are the shipping costs for this Bearbrick?

We offer free shipping within the European Union for orders over €75. For orders below this amount, we charge a flat shipping fee of €4.90 for deliveries within Germany and €7.90 for other EU countries. Simply contact us by phone, email, or chat, and we'll send you a prepaid DHL return label. Will I receive a certificate of authenticity for this Bearbrick?

For all Bearbricks 200% and larger (including 100%+400% sets), we at Zaiser Art Gallery issue an additional Certificate of Authenticity for your records. This underscores our commitment and conviction to offering only genuine Medicom Toy products.

How does the quality and mobility of this model differ from other sizes?

Medicom Toy's production quality is very high across all sizes. Larger models (400% or 1000%) often offer more space for detailed designs. However, the joints vary depending on the size: In larger models (400% and 1000%), the arms and legs usually rotate in a single plane. Smaller Bearbricks (especially 100% and 200%) often have ball joints, allowing for more flexible movement of the limbs.
